How We Work Together

You deserve therapy that honors your identity, lived experiences, and values—without asking you to explain them. At Life Migration Therapy, sessions are grounded in cultural humility, anti-oppression practices, and trauma-informed care.

Whether you're navigating the challenges of being a first- or second-generation adult, working through burnout, healing from trauma, or seeking support around racial identity or gender expression—you’ll be met with compassion, clarity, and culturally responsive care.

Therapy with Charika is collaborative and flexible. Sessions are offered online and in person for adults in Maryland and Washington, D.C., and are designed to create safety, support growth, and empower you to make aligned, lasting change.

  • Personalized sessions that meet you where you are — whether you're managing anxiety, depression, or the stress of constantly code-switching in a world that doesn't always get you. Life is complex — and sometimes, we need a space to process, heal, and grow.

As a licensed psychotherapist serving Maryland and Washington, DC, I provide individual therapy that centers your story. Whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, identity questions, or emotional stress, I offer culturally-responsive support tailored to your needs.

You deserve care from a mental health professional who sees your full humanity. Its less about solution focused therapy, and more about commitment therapy to your own current space.

I get to know you, address challenges with a person centered approach where I provide compassionate guidance that’ll bring positive change to your world.

  • From identity navigation to intergenerational trauma, I specialize in holding space for those raised between worlds — children of immigrants, multicultural families, and folks doing deep emotional unlearning. Lets face it, we face unique challenges, we have specific needs, helping clients like you is why I became a therapist.

Being the first in your family to navigate life in a new country can feel isolating. You may carry unspoken pressure, cultural conflict, or guilt. I offer therapy for immigrants and children of immigrants that addresses intergenerational trauma, identity exploration, and code-switching exhaustion. You don’t have to choose between honoring your heritage and building your future — together, we make space for both.

  • Navigating the immigration process is already hard — your psychological evaluation shouldn’t be.

I provide timely, culturally-informed mental health evaluations for:

    • Extreme Hardship Waivers

    • Asylum Cases

    • VAWA Petitions

    • U Visa & T Visa Applications

With experience working with immigrant families and African American families and trauma-informed care, I ensure your story is documented clearly and compassionately.

Done with cultural sensitivity, a safe space and timeliness — supporting you and your attorney throughout the process.

We’re accepting new clients and helping clients consistently, schedule a call here.

  • Feel like you're always “on”? Let’s unpack burnout, boundary-setting, and imposter syndrome in a space that honors your humanity.

Your job shouldn’t cost you your health. If you’re overwhelmed by deadlines, micro aggressions, burnout, or lack of fulfillment, you’re not alone. I offer therapy for work-related stress that helps you identify patterns, process trauma, and reclaim peace. We’ll work together to explore what rest and boundaries can look like — even when quitting isn’t an option.

  • As a Black woman, you’re often expected to carry everything — strength, silence, survival.

But you deserve space to be seen, heard, and held. I specialize in therapy for Black women in Maryland and DC who are dealing with stress, burnout, imposter syndrome, or emotional overwhelm.

This is a place where you can unmask, reconnect, and rebuild on your own terms. Using different methods from cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapeutic services, I help clients break free and live fuller, healthier lives.

  • Queer, questioning, and LGBTQ+ folks deserve affirming, safe, and nonjudgmental therapy. Whether you're navigating coming out, trauma, chosen family dynamics, or the intersections of queerness and culture, I hold space for your full experience. As a Queer-affirming and BIPOC therapist, my work centers liberation and mental wellness — not pathology.

  • Traditional therapy can feel disconnected or dismissive for many BIPOC and immigrant communities. That’s why I practice decolonized therapy — an approach rooted in social justice, lived experience, and collective healing. We name power, honor your story, and center your truth without shame or labels. This is therapy that honors you, not fixes you.

  • Access care from the comfort of home. I offer HIPAA-compliant online therapy to clients across Maryland and DC.

Whether you’re balancing parenting, commuting, or just prefer the privacy of your space, online counseling is a convenient and effective option for mental health support.

  • Major life changes — whether joyful or painful — can bring emotional stress, confusion, and grief. I work with clients navigating transitions like career changes, moving, breakups, new relationships, and family shifts. Together, we build clarity and resilience through every chapter.

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”

Healing Looks Different for Everyone.
Here's What It Felt Like for Them.

  • Charika has completely changed my life! I came in not knowing who I was and left feeling the most certain about my identity and what I wanted for my life.

  • I can't express enough how grateful I am for the incredible support and guidance I’ve received from Ms. White. From the very first session, I felt heard, understood, and safe in a way I never expected. The strategies and insights she provided have been truly transformative, helping me work through issues I thought I would never overcome. Not only did she help me see things from new perspectives, but she also gave me the tools I needed to navigate life's challenges with confidence. Ms. White has been a beacon of support, and I am beyond thankful for her professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to my well-being. Thanks to her expertise, I feel stronger, more self-aware, and better equipped to handle whatever comes my way. I can't recommend her enough!

  • I cannot recommend Ms. White enough. Truly a gifted therapist—mindful, careful, and deeply professional in their approach. What stood out most was their ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space while remaining refreshingly down-to-earth. Every session felt meaningful, and I always leave with new insights and tools to help me grow. Their genuine care and thoughtful guidance have made a lasting impact on my life. Thank you, for all you’ve done!

  • Ms. White is very endearing, charismatic and such a great listener. She truly asks the right questions to help me connect the dots for my therapy. Her vast knowledge and constructive feedback has helped me work on my traumas over the year. In the past, I’ve struggled to connect with other therapists because I am a 1st generation immigrant but Ms White was able to relate to my story because of her immigrant background and her understanding of the cultural challenges I faced. Ms White is kind but she challenges me constantly which I desperately needed in a therapist to really “do the work.”

  • Charika helped me to face my fears, decrease my drinking, and taught me how to sit with the discomforts and navigate in life with the use of healthy coping tools.

  • It's great to work with a therapist who is also from a different. She is warm, knowledgeable and culturally in tune with practices of my country making the sessions feel like I'm with a friend who truly cares.

  • To find a queer, Black immigrant therapist is like finding a unicorn. Charika indeed has been that for me and I cherish the moments we have that allow me to bring all of my true self to our sessions.

Why don’t I take insurance?

I don’t take insurance because it often creates barriers for vulnerable communities, including people of color, immigrants and LGBTQ+ community. Insurance companies require diagnoses for coverage, which can be used against individuals in legal, employment, or immigration matters. Many people in these communities are also misdiagnosed or denied care due to systemic biases. By not accepting insurance, I ensure that therapy remains a safe, judgment-free space where healing isn’t dictated by rigid policies or profit-driven systems.

While I don’t accept insurance directly, many clients use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for sessions. I provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company. Depending on your plan, they may cover a portion of the cost.

We've partnered with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits.

Mentaya is perfect if you:

• Have out-of-network benefits
