therapist evening options for a safe space for specific needs first step is to get started in MD and DC

Stop circling the same struggles, let’s go deeper and shift them for good.

If you’ve been carrying years of emotional pain, migration stress, culture loss, or the exhaustion of navigating systems that weren’t built for you, you may feel like weekly therapy just scratches the surface. Traditional sessions are powerful, but sometimes they feel too short, too spread out, or not enough to meet the weight of what you’re holding.

That’s where Therapy Intensives come in.
Instead of stretching the healing process over months, intensives give you dedicated time and space to dive deep, unpack what’s been buried, and begin creating real movement forward. You’ll walk away not only with relief, but with concrete strategies and next steps you can apply immediately.

With Charika White, LICSW/LCSW-C, you’ll receive:

  • Culturally-affirming care that honors your story and lived experience

  • Trauma-informed, multifaceted support to process deeply and safely

  • A personalized roadmap for healing that doesn’t leave you feeling stuck or alone afterward

This isn’t just therapy on repeat — it’s therapy that meets you where you are, when you need more.

If you’re ready to see real change in the challenges that have been weighing you down—and you don’t want to wait months to feel relief—Therapy Intensives give you the chance to make meaningful progress in just one powerful day or a few focused days. This is your space to reset, reclaim, and move forward.

Is Individual Therapy Intensive Right for You?

when you need more support for your personal needs and positive changes by a personalized approach from a therapist in MD and DC

You’ve carried the weight of emotional pain, burnout, migration stress, or identity struggles for far too long. Weekly sessions are powerful, but sometimes, 50 minutes feels too short, too surface-level, or too slow for the depth of what you’re holding.

You’re ready for more than a quick check-in. You’re ready for a shift.

Why Choose an Intensive?

An Individual Therapy Intensive is focused time or one powerful block or multiple days designed to help you:

  • Unpack years of stress or trauma without stretching it out over months

  • Reset and move forward with clarity and confidence

  • Leave with a personalized plan and concrete tools you can use right away

This is your chance to go beyond symptom management and finally make progress on the issues that feel too big for weekly therapy alone.

Is This for You?

You might choose an intensive if you’re:

  • Navigating a major life decision or transition

  • Feeling stuck as the first in your family to seek healing

  • Carrying complex stress, burnout, or anxiety that can’t be contained in 50 minutes

  • Processing immigration stress, intergenerational trauma, or cultural identity challenges

  • Ready to clarify boundaries, strengthen relationships, and act on your values

  • A part of a marginalized community (Black, LGBTQ+, immigrant, first-gen) seeking care that affirms and understands you

  • Unable to commit to weekly therapy but still want intentional, powerful support

What an Intensive Is (and Isn’t)

✔ A private, one-to-one extended session/s designed for deeper healing
✔ A chance to create a clear roadmap for your next steps
✔ A way to jump-start or complement your ongoing therapy

✘ Not a crisis service
✘ Not group, family therapy, or an intensive outpatient program

How an Individual Therapy Intensive Works

social support through sensitive issues and unique challenges through everyday activities with comprehensive care and gradual progress in MD and DC

One extended virtual session (typically 3 hours with multi-day options) with Charika White, LICSW/LCSW-C.
You’ll leave with a written, personalized treatment plan tailored to your goals.

Intensives are conducted via secure telehealth for adults located in Maryland or Washington, DC.

1. Friendly Consultation

We’ll start with a short, no-pressure conversation to:

  • Answer your questions

  • Clarify whether a therapy intensive or ongoing weekly sessions are the best fit

Before your session, you’ll complete a brief questionnaire to help identify 2–3 main priorities, such as:

  • Setting boundaries

  • Processing a specific experience

  • Mapping triggers or patterns

  • Clarifying next steps

Charika will review your history and create a tailored framework, so your intensive is focused, efficient, and meaningful.

During the intensive:

  • One extended session (typically 3 hours) or multi-day option, with built-in breaks

  • Integrative, trauma-informed methods tailored to your needs, including:

    • IFS (Internal Family Systems) to explore and relate to internal “parts” carrying pain, fear, or self-doubt

Healing Looks Different for Everyone.
Here's What It Felt Like for Them.

  • Charika has completely changed my life! I came in not knowing who I was and left feeling the most certain about my identity and what I wanted for my life.

  • To find a queer, Black immigrant therapist is like finding a unicorn. Charika indeed has been that for me and I cherish the moments we have that allow me to bring all of my true self to our sessions.

  • I can't express enough how grateful I am for the incredible support and guidance I’ve received from Ms. White. From the very first session, I felt heard, understood, and safe in a way I never expected. The strategies and insights she provided have been truly transformative, helping me work through issues I thought I would never overcome. Not only did she help me see things from new perspectives, but she also gave me the tools I needed to navigate life's challenges with confidence. Ms. White has been a beacon of support, and I am beyond thankful for her professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to my well-being. Thanks to her expertise, I feel stronger, more self-aware, and better equipped to handle whatever comes my way. I can't recommend her enough!

  • I cannot recommend Ms. White enough. Truly a gifted therapist—mindful, careful, and deeply professional in their approach. What stood out most was their ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space while remaining refreshingly down-to-earth. Every session felt meaningful, and I always leave with new insights and tools to help me grow. Their genuine care and thoughtful guidance have made a lasting impact on my life. Thank you, for all you’ve done!

  • Ms. White is very endearing, charismatic and such a great listener. She truly asks the right questions to help me connect the dots for my therapy. Her vast knowledge and constructive feedback has helped me work on my traumas over the year. In the past, I’ve struggled to connect with other therapists because I am a 1st generation immigrant but Ms White was able to relate to my story because of her immigrant background and her understanding of the cultural challenges I faced. Ms White is kind but she challenges me constantly which I desperately needed in a therapist to really “do the work.”

  • Charika helped me to face my fears, decrease my drinking, and taught me how to sit with the discomforts and navigate in life with the use of healthy coping tools.

  • It's great to work with a therapist who is also from a different. She is warm, knowledgeable and culturally in tune with practices of my country making the sessions feel like I'm with a friend who truly cares.

What You’ll Experience In A Therapy Intensive

without family involvement we support individuals going through key differences in their unique needs and recovery goals rather than one therapy for a more fulfilling life

Therapy intensives offer a deeper opportunity to pause, reflect, and process the things you’ve been carrying without the pressure of squeezing it all into a 50-minute weekly session.

Here’s what you’ll walk away with:

  • A culturally responsive, emotionally safe space where you can speak your truth without code-switching or overexplaining.

  • Clarity about your lived experiences, patterns, and responses, especially if you're navigating stress from work, family, or systems not built with you in mind.

  • Grounding practices and coping tools tailored to your needs—whether it’s reconnecting to your body, managing anxiety, or processing grief or change.

  • A personalized reflection and integration plan, so you leave with a clear sense of your next steps.

  • An optional follow-up session to support ongoing emotional processing after the intensive.

Therapy intensives are offered via telehealth for adults located in Maryland and Washington, DC. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after a break, this focused format can be the reset you need.

What You’ll Walk Away With

Clarity you can feel. By the end of this extended individual therapy session, you’ll understand what’s been keeping you stuck—and what to do next. No guesswork, no rushing.

A personalized treatment plan. You’ll receive a concise, written treatment plan within 48 hours: goals we identified together, step-by-step next actions, and resources (scripts, skills, and practices) you can use between therapy sessions.

Practical skills for real life. Regulation tools for anxiety or low mood, boundary language for work and relationships, and values-aligned steps that fit your schedule—grounded in culturally responsive mental health care.

Language for advocacy. Whether it’s a conversation with family, HR, or a significant other, you’ll leave with clear words to ask for what you need.

A path that matches your capacity. We’ll map options for follow-up—brief check-ins, ongoing telehealth care, or a pause while you implement your plan—so the pace fits your life.

Safety first: Intensives aren’t appropriate for crises or immediate safety concerns.

If you’re in crisis, call 988 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you’re unsure what you need, start with the free consult and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Individual Therapy Intensive FAQ’s

A therapy intensive is different from weekly therapy sessions, so it’s natural to have questions. This quick FAQ covers the essentials, how the extended individual therapy format works via telehealth, who it’s best for (adults in Maryland & Washington, DC), what’s included in the personalized treatment plan, and billing for out-of-network mental health services.

Don’t see your question? Schedule a complimentary consultation and we’ll talk through your options.

  • It’s a single, extended individual therapy session (typically 2–3 hours) conducted via secure telehealth for adults in Maryland or Washington, DC.

The goal is to go deeper than standard weekly therapy sessions and leave you with a clear, personalized treatment plan you can use right away.

Before we begin we’ll have a consultation call to understand if this type of program aligns with your individual needs and navigate therapy approaches that’ll provide the structured support for your personal growth.

  • People moving through big decisions or life transitions, experiencing work stress or burnout, untangling identity/migration grief, or wanting focused time to map boundaries and next steps. When one on one sessions have too much time in between and when you’d like to work through psychological challenges in a deeper session.

Many first-gen, Black, LGBTQ+, and immigrant clients choose intensives for culturally responsive psychotherapy that honors context—not just symptoms. (If you’re in crisis, please call 988 or go to the nearest ER.)

  • No. An intensive is private, one-to-one psychotherapy—not an intensive outpatient program (IOP), not a retreat, and not group or family therapy.

It complements ongoing weekly therapy sessions; it doesn’t replace higher levels of care.

  • We meet for one extended block (2–3 hours) with short breaks.

You’ll clarify priorities, explore patterns, learn skills that fit your life, and co-create a personalized treatment plan.

You’ll get a written summary within 48 hours and can schedule a brief integration session if helpful.

  • Virtual only. Sessions are delivered via secure telehealth. You must be physically located in Maryland or Washington, DC at the time of the session due to licensure.

  • Services are self-pay/out-of-network.

If your plan reimburses out-of-network mental health services, a superbill can be provided. HSA/FSA often eligible.

Check your benefits for coverage of extended sessions.

  • Yes. Many clients use an intensive as adjunct care for a specific focus.

With your consent, Charika can coordinate with your current provider and primary therapist so your plan integrates smoothly with ongoing therapy sessions.

So an individual therapy intensive can work well with your traditional therapy.

  • Choose a quiet, private space, stable internet, headphones, water, and a journal.

Before we meet, you’ll complete a brief questionnaire to set 2–3 priorities.

Afterward, you’ll receive your written plan plus resources; an optional 50–55 minute follow-up helps fine-tune progress.

  • We’ll discuss options in your free consultation. There are several options for therapeutic services.

Ongoing individual therapy via telehealth, a short-term series, or referrals that match your needs and schedule.

  • You’ll review the current policy during booking; please plan to reschedule as early as possible so your extended time block can be offered to another client.

If you have questions about fees or timing, bring them to your consultation.

mental health treatment with therapy sessions for mental health challenges with a personalized treatment plan for mental health concerns in washington DC and Maryland

At Life Migration Therapy, we understand that healing doesn’t happen in isolation. That’s why our therapy program is built to complement your support network and loved ones while helping you build a more supportive home environment. Every individual therapy intensive begins with a thorough assessment to ensure you receive care tailored to your needs, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

While we are an out-of-network provider, we still hear from many people seeking in-network options; if that’s your situation, we kindly encourage exploring our self-pay model for accessible, quality support. This isn’t just a short-term fix, our intensives are designed to offer long-term benefits, even if you’re not sure what therapy offers could work best for you yet.

Our individual counseling intensives are designed to meet you where you are, especially when daily life feels overwhelming and traditional sessions haven’t provided the substantial support you need. In a private environment, you’ll have the time and space to explore personal challenges more deeply. While we do not accept health insurance, we offer flexible therapy options rooted in evidence-based therapies to guide you through the therapeutic process. Whether you're seeking long term recovery or simply want to reset and reconnect, our intensives offer a meaningful starting point for your healing journey, one that honors your experience and centers your care.

Why don’t I take insurance?

I don’t take insurance because it often creates barriers for vulnerable communities, including people of color, immigrants and LGBTQ+ community. Insurance companies require diagnoses for coverage, which can be used against individuals in legal, employment, or immigration matters. Many people in these communities are also misdiagnosed or denied care due to systemic biases. By not accepting insurance, I ensure that therapy remains a safe, judgment-free space where healing isn’t dictated by rigid policies or profit-driven systems.

While I don’t accept insurance directly, many clients use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for sessions. I provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company. Depending on your plan, they may cover a portion of the cost.

We've partnered with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits.

Mentaya is perfect if you:

• Have out-of-network benefits

• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance

• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement

• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!

Here's how it works:

1. Sign up for Mentaya here

2. Our practice will enter your sessions into the platform.

3. Mentaya submits the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.

4. You get reimbursed by insurance!

Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which includes handling any paperwork required, dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies.

It's risk-free: They guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees.
