black individualized care trauma informed care in maryland

When 50-minute appointments feel too slow or life is heavy with work stress, identity shifts, migration grief, or old patterns that won’t budge this focused, one-day intensive gives you the time and space to breathe, make sense of what’s happening, and move forward.

With Charika White, LICSW/LCSW-C, you’ll get culturally-affirming, trauma-informed support tailored to you, plus clear next steps you can use right away.

Healing Looks Different for Everyone.
Here's What It Felt Like for Them.

  • Charika has completely changed my life! I came in not knowing who I was and left feeling the most certain about my identity and what I wanted for my life.

  • To find a queer, Black immigrant therapist is like finding a unicorn. Charika indeed has been that for me and I cherish the moments we have that allow me to bring all of my true self to our sessions.

  • I can't express enough how grateful I am for the incredible support and guidance I’ve received from Ms. White. From the very first session, I felt heard, understood, and safe in a way I never expected. The strategies and insights she provided have been truly transformative, helping me work through issues I thought I would never overcome. Not only did she help me see things from new perspectives, but she also gave me the tools I needed to navigate life's challenges with confidence. Ms. White has been a beacon of support, and I am beyond thankful for her professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to my well-being. Thanks to her expertise, I feel stronger, more self-aware, and better equipped to handle whatever comes my way. I can't recommend her enough!

  • I cannot recommend Ms. White enough. Truly a gifted therapist—mindful, careful, and deeply professional in their approach. What stood out most was their ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space while remaining refreshingly down-to-earth. Every session felt meaningful, and I always leave with new insights and tools to help me grow. Their genuine care and thoughtful guidance have made a lasting impact on my life. Thank you, for all you’ve done!

  • Ms. White is very endearing, charismatic and such a great listener. She truly asks the right questions to help me connect the dots for my therapy. Her vast knowledge and constructive feedback has helped me work on my traumas over the year. In the past, I’ve struggled to connect with other therapists because I am a 1st generation immigrant but Ms White was able to relate to my story because of her immigrant background and her understanding of the cultural challenges I faced. Ms White is kind but she challenges me constantly which I desperately needed in a therapist to really “do the work.”

  • Charika helped me to face my fears, decrease my drinking, and taught me how to sit with the discomforts and navigate in life with the use of healthy coping tools.

  • It's great to work with a therapist who is also from a different. She is warm, knowledgeable and culturally in tune with practices of my country making the sessions feel like I'm with a friend who truly cares.

Is an Individual Therapy Intensive Right for You?

If weekly 50-minute sessions feel too slow or life is throwing more at you than you can process—an individual therapy intensive can help you make meaningful progress in a single, focused block.

This virtual offering is available to adults located in Maryland and Washington, DC.

You might choose an intensive when you’re:

  • Navigating a big decision or life transition (new job, breakup, move, graduation, parenthood)

  • Carrying complex stress from work, caregiving, or burnout and need a reset

  • Processing trauma, immigration/acculturation stress, or intergenerational patterns that keep repeating

  • Wanting targeted support to clarify boundaries, strengthen relationships, or reconnect with your values

  • Feeling stuck in anxiety, low mood, or perfectionism and ready for a practical plan you can use now

  • First-gen or part of a marginalized community (Black, LGBTQ+, immigrant, neurodivergent) seeking culturally-affirming care that understands context, not just symptoms

What an intensive is (and isn’t):

A therapy intensive is a single, extended session designed to go deeper, create clarity, and leave you with a step-by-step plan.

It’s not a crisis service or a substitute for ongoing weekly therapy; many clients pair an intensive with continued sessions or use it as a focused tune-up between regular care.

If you’re located in MD or DC and this fits, you’re in the right place.

How an Individual Therapy Intensive Works

A focused, extended session lets you go deeper without rushing and leaves you with a practical plan you can start using right away.

Intensives are conducted via secure telehealth for adults located in Maryland or Washington, DC.

Here’s what working with Charika looks like:

  1. Schedule a Complimentary Consultation
We’ll briefly connect to confirm fit, answer questions, and decide whether an individual therapy intensive or weekly psychotherapy makes the most sense for your goals.

  2. Pre-Intensive Prep
You’ll complete a brief questionnaire and set two–three priorities (examples: boundary-setting, processing a specific experience, mapping triggers, clarifying next steps). I’ll review your history and prepare a tailored framework so our time is focused and efficient.

  3. Your Intensive Session (one extended block)
We meet for a single, extended virtual session (typically 2–3 hours) using an integrative, trauma-informed approach.
Depending on your needs, we may draw from:

    • CBT & ACT for thought/behavior change and values-aligned action

    • DBT-informed skills for emotion regulation and distress tolerance

    • Attachment-based and culturally responsive work to honor context

    • Mindfulness and parts-informed exploration to increase self-compassion and clarity

Expect a steady pace, built-in breaks, and a compassionate, culturally affirming space.

  4. Personalized Action Plan
Within 48 hours, you’ll receive a concise written summary: key insights, step-by-step next actions, and a resource list (scripts, worksheets, coping tools). If helpful, we’ll outline a brief after-care routine to support integration.

  5. Optional Integration Session
Many clients schedule a 50–55 minute follow-up within 1–2 weeks to review progress, fine-tune strategies, and keep momentum going.

Billing note: Intensives are self-pay/out-of-network. If your plan reimburses extended psychotherapy, a superbill can be provided—check your benefits for details.

What You’ll Walk Away With

An immigration evaluation is an in-depth assessment that helps individuals seeking legal status in the U.S. by documenting the emotional, psychological, and hardship-related impacts of their situation. These evaluations provide crucial support for asylum cases, hardship waivers, VAWA petitions, U-Visas, and more—helping immigrants and their families share their stories and pursue safety, stability, and a better future.
