How does the Green Bottle Fee Model work?
The Green Bottle Fee Model is a sliding scale system built on one principle: your financial situation should not determine whether you get to heal. Three tiers. Three different economic realities. You choose the one that honestly reflects where you are right now, based entirely on your own word.
The model was developed as a tool of economic justice and a way to hold multiple price points, so the cost of care never becomes the only factor deciding who can access it. At Life Migration Therapy, the Green Bottle sliding scale is how that value becomes something concrete, usable, and real.
Mental health care in DC and Maryland shouldn’t be reserved for people with financial flexibility.
Choosing a tier is an act of self-awareness.
Read each description and sit with it. The right bottle is the one that reflects your actual financial experience, not the one you wish you were in or the one that feels easiest to claim. There is no judgment on this end, whichever you choose.
Community Care Rate
$95 / sessionFor people whose economic circumstances make it genuinely difficult to meet basic needs: housing, food, child care, health care, reliable transportation. Living paycheck to paycheck, carrying significant debt, or working month to month to secure necessities. Being here isn't asking for charity. It means the practice honors your financial reality as equal to any other. You belong here, and your presence in this work carries the same weight as anyone else's.
Sustainability Rate
$130 / sessionFor people who can meet basic needs but have limited expendable income beyond that: vacations, new clothes, personal savings, a cushion for surprise costs. You cover your necessities, but financial flexibility isn't something you experience regularly. If that describes you, the Sustainability Rate is the honest choice: not in crisis, and not comfortable enough to absorb the full cost of ongoing therapy without strain.
Solidarity Rate
$160 / sessionFor people who can meet their needs comfortably, afford personal savings, take a vacation from time to time, and handle unexpected expenses without significant stress. Choosing this rate is how you contribute to the broader community accessing care through this waitlist. When people who can pay the full cost do, lower cost offerings stay genuinely sustainable for everyone.
Why we don’t ask for proof of income.
Your honest acknowledgment of your own financial experience is the only thing required to choose which tier fits. You know your financial situation better than any form does.
This is not naivety. It’s a deliberate choice to treat people seeking care with the same dignity we bring to the therapeutic relationship itself. Sliding scale practices that require documentation often deter the exact people they were built to serve, and we don’t want bureaucracy standing between someone and the support they need.
When clients who can pay the full cost do, it sustains the practice’s ability to keep lower cost offerings open for those who need them. The Green Bottle system runs on that reciprocity, and the people who come here show up to it honestly.
Who is this waitlist for?
The waitlist is open to adults 18 and older who live in Washington DC or Maryland. All therapy is delivered virtually, so you can access care from home, your office, or anywhere with a private internet connection. Services aren’t available outside of DC and Maryland at this time, and this waitlist is for ongoing individual therapy, not crisis support.
If you’re not in crisis but have been putting off getting help because of cost, or because you weren’t sure care like this existed for someone in your financial situation, this waitlist was built with you in mind. The people who find their way here are often navigating immigration, identity, racial stress, burnout, grief, life transitions, and the weight of holding everything together for everyone around them. You don’t have to keep doing that alone.
Your place is held until you say go.
- You get a confirmation and your spot on the waitlist is recorded at the tier you chose.
- Openings are matched to tiers. As availability opens with the associate clinicians Charika supervises, you’re contacted to schedule an initial appointment. Wait times vary with capacity at each tier.
- Therapy begins when you say so. Submitting the form doesn’t start therapy or establish a client relationship. It simply holds your place until a spot that matches your tier opens.
Virtual sessions remove the commute and the scheduling gymnastics, so consistent support stays realistic. You access care from wherever you’re comfortable, on a schedule that works for your life.
Green Bottle questions, answered.
What is the Green Bottle Fee Model?
The Green Bottle Fee Model is a sliding scale system that offers therapy at multiple price points based on financial situation rather than a single flat rate. At Life Migration Therapy the three tiers are the Community Care Rate at $95 per session, the Sustainability Rate at $130, and the Solidarity Rate at $160. Clients self-select the tier that honestly reflects their economic circumstances, with no documentation or income verification needed, because the model runs on trust.
How do I know which Green Bottle tier is right for me?
Read the description for each tier honestly and choose the one that reflects your actual financial experience. The Community Care Rate is for people who struggle to meet basic needs or are living paycheck to paycheck. The Sustainability Rate is for people who can meet their needs but have limited expendable income. The Solidarity Rate is for people with financial security who can comfortably afford the full cost. If you’re unsure, sit with this: does your financial situation regularly create stress around securing necessities? That likely points to the Community Care tier.
Do I need to provide proof of income or financial documents?
No documentation is required. The Green Bottle model is built on trust, not verification. You self-select your tier based on an honest acknowledgment of your financial situation, and your word is the only evidence it asks for. The model trusts that people can honestly name their own economic realities without gatekeeping.
Can I change my tier after I start therapy?
Yes. Your financial situation may change, and your tier can reflect that. If your circumstances shift in either direction, discuss adjusting your rate with your clinician. The goal is for your cost to remain a genuine reflection of where you are, not where you started when you joined the waitlist. Nobody will dig or pry. You assess your situation, name it, and the rate follows.
Is this sliding scale therapy or free therapy?
The Green Bottle waitlist offers reduced fee therapy, not free therapy. The lowest available rate is $95 per session. If you’re looking for free mental health services, community mental health centers and some nonprofit organizations in Washington DC and Maryland may have options, though they often serve people in active crisis and carry long waitlists.
Who provides the therapy on this waitlist?
Therapy through the Green Bottle waitlist is provided by associate clinicians working under the direct clinical supervision of Charika White, LICSW, LCSW-C. Charika holds dual licensure in Washington DC and Maryland, and the associate clinicians she supervises are trained to deliver the same culturally attentive care that Life Migration Therapy is built on.
How long is the waitlist?
Wait times vary depending on current availability and how many slots are open at each tier. There are a limited number of slots at the Community Care and Sustainability rates. Submitting the form holds your place, and you’ll be contacted as openings become available. A specific timeline can’t be guaranteed, but every person who submits the form is on the list.
Is the therapy on this waitlist the same quality as full-fee services?
Yes. The cost of a session doesn’t determine the quality of care. Associate clinicians receive ongoing supervision from Charika White, LICSW, LCSW-C and are held to the same clinical and ethical standards across all tiers. Reduced fee therapy through the Green Bottle model is the same investment in your growth and wellbeing, at a cost that reflects your financial situation.
What issues does the therapy on this waitlist address?
The clinicians on this waitlist work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, identity and belonging, relationship stress, racial trauma, workplace burnout, and immigration-related challenges. If you’re based in Washington DC or Maryland and have been carrying something you’re ready to set down, this is a space designed to help you do that.
What if even the lowest Green Bottle tier feels out of reach?
If the $95 Community Care Rate still feels prohibitive given your financial situation, reach out before submitting the form. There may be options to discuss, and referrals to lower-cost community mental health care are always on the table. Don’t let cost alone stop you from reaching out.
Your financial situation shouldn’t decide whether you heal.
Hold your place on the waitlist, or start full-fee therapy with Charika directly. Either way, the first step costs nothing.
